“I never get tired of working because I love what I do. Music gives me life.” These are the words of Alex Sensation, international DJ, record producer, radio personality, and host of his own four-hour syndicated mix show for SBS (Spanish Broadcasting System) airing across the United States and globally online.

A native of Bogotá, Colombia, Alex Sensation (as he is artistically known) immigrated to the United States at a young age. Following in the footsteps of his older brother who was a disc jockey, Alex began collecting music and by the age of 16 was already spinning in various nightclubs. At just 17 years old, Alex became a resident DJ at the world renowned Copacabana nightclub in New York. In order to work at the club, however, Alex had to convince the club’s management that he was 19. His passion for music was clearly inbred, and his tenacity for success only intensified as time passed.

While working at the Copa, Alex was approached by Tony Luna, programming director for Caliente 105.9 FM. Luna heard Alex spinning and offered him a position as a DJ on the weekends, but only as a part-time mixer. Alex took the job and remained with the station for a year and a half. Shortly following, Jesus Salas, programming director for SBS, approached Alex to become the main mixer of a segment called “La Mega Mezcla,” which ran from Monday through Saturday. Alex’s unprecedented energy and unique musical dynamic made the show an instant hit. Fifteen years later, Alex Sensation, “El Mezclu” as he became known, continues to be the station’s highest ranking DJ by far. As of 2014, “La Mega Mezcla” remains unsurpassed in ratings for the fifteenth consecutive year. The show boasts an average of 4 million listeners globally. In fact, “La Mega Mezcla” was syndicated in 2012 to Florida and in 2015 to Southern California and is available for worldwide stream via applications on LaMusica.comand TuneInRadio.

“I mix a little bit of everything, I play it all by ear. I offer as much variety to my audience as possible while remaining true to our tropical roots,” says Alex. “I’m constantly in tune with my fans; I know just what they want to hear next. Each day I transmit to my listeners all of my positive energy and happiness on the air as well as in my live performances.”

Among his countless accomplishments as a prominent DJ and radio personality, Alex is the recipient of the ACE Award (the Association of Latin Entertainment Critics), the Global Spin Award, and the Latin Mix Award. In 2014, Alex was invited to attend the Latin Grammys as an honorary guest and hosted the official Latin Grammys after-party. He has been the face of Dennon DJ Equipment, Johnny Walker, AT&T, Heineken, McDonalds, and Budweiser. Alex has performed to sold-out crowds at Madison Square Garden, IZOD Center, Best Buy Theater, United Palace, American Airlines Arena, Yankee Stadium, Radio City Music Hall, Olympic Stadium in the Dominican Republic, the legendary Roseland Ballroom, the Central Park Summerstage, and the Hakkasan Nightclub in Las Vegas. Alex has hosted his yearly sold-out birthday bash in Madison Square Garden since 2011. In 2014, American Airlines Arena in Miami also became home to Alex’s birthday celebration, which sold out as well.

And when he’s not in front of the microphone, Alex gives back to the community. He helps innumerable fans with personal accomplishments and empowerment. Not only is Alex heavily involved with the Divino Nino Foundation, Career Gear, and the National Latino Commission on AIDS, he also participates in the yearly Puerto Rican and Dominican Independence Day parades, various Colombian festivals, and other celebratory Latin events. He hosts multiple toy and coat drives each holiday season. He has been a motivational spokesperson in many schools. Truly, Alex transcends the notion of a humble public figure to an advocate for the needy.

Alex has played at over 10,000 venues across the United States and abroad in the past twenty years. He’s delighted the world with his mixes, playing internationally in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Canada, Mexico, Aruba, and St. Martin. He is so loved, in fact, that it’s not uncommon for fans to storm the stage for a photo. Alex has been featured on a multitude of TV shows on Mun2 and MundoFOX, as well as major reality shows on MTV. He has appeared in publications such as The New York Times, Latin Trends, Billboard en Espanol, and People en Espanol.

Outside of his tremendous career as a DJ, Alex has partnered up with numerous international talents to produce and record music. He has collaborated closely with Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias, Daddy Yankee, Sean Paul, Carlos Vives, Juanes, Victor Manuel, Gente de Zona, Shaggy, J. Balvin, Nicky Jam, Tito El Bambino, Hector Acosta “El Torito,” Wisin, and Yandel. In 2013, Alex released the Balada Boa remix/Noche de Placer featuring Gusttavo Lima and Pitbull, which quickly rose to number one on the Billboard charts. This record in particular fueled Alex’s drive to take his career to the next level as both an artist and producer. In fact, Alex’s first single, which features Yandel and Shaggy, is scheduled to be released in February, 2015.

“I can’t imagine myself doing anything else. Music has the power to change our mood, our mentality, and I’m blessed to be able to impact so many people in positive ways,” adds Alex, smiling warmly.
